Description
This literary art print gives the fullest telling of the Ophelia scene in the collection: a woman in black lying still in a flower-filled pond, eyes closed, arms open, drifting among reeds and blooms. It's made to order in the USA as an aluminum metal print (4x6 to 20x30 in) or archival fine art paper print (4x6 to 24x30 in), suited to dark academia libraries and studies — a fitting gift for Shakespeare readers and lovers of tragic romance.
Shown full figure rather than a close crop, the pale figure against dark water and flowers holds its quiet intensity for years.
Does this print come framed? No. Every print ships unframed. Frames and styling shown in the photos are for display only and are not included.
Why is this scene called the drowning of Ophelia specifically? It refers to the moment described secondhand in Shakespeare's Hamlet, where Ophelia is found floating among flowers before drowning. The scene is never staged in the play itself, which is why painters have imagined it so many different ways since, most famously John Everett Millais in his 1852 painting. This piece is an original reinterpretation in that same tradition rather than a copy of any single existing artwork.
